History of Hunt Insurance Group

 

 

TIMELINE

 

1945 – John E. Hunt Insurance Agency launched as a full-service independent insurance agency.

1959 – Hunt Insurance Agency offices relocated to Miami, FL. With former Supreme Court Justice Alto Adams, John E. Hunt formed Alto Adams & Associates, Inc., a full-service

            commercial lines agency specializing in surety bonds and large contracting accounts.

1962 – Hunt Insurance Agency began consulting to the sheriffs of Florida.

1968 – The National Sheriffs’ Association approached John E. Hunt and the Florida Sheriffs Association about using the FSA’s liability program for National Sheriffs’ membership,                    
which was approved. Hunt Insurance Agency began handling insurance for sheriffs and deputies countrywide.

1972 – John E. Hunt sold the Miami, FL office and reestablished an office in Tallahassee, FL, forming John E. Hunt & Associates, Inc.

 

1978 – John E. Hunt & Associates, Inc. established the Florida Sheriffs Self-Insurance Fund.  Within a few years, the Sheriffs developed additional Funds for automobile coverage and             workers compensation.

1984 – With the creation of Hunt Insurance Group, Inc., John E. Hunt & Associates, Inc. and its retail Property, Casualty, Life and Health business was sold to a local independent        

            agency.  That same year, Hunt and the Florida Sheriffs formed the Florida Sheriffs Multiple Employers Trust (FSMET).

1987 – The Louisiana Clerks came to Hunt to assist them with liability issues, and the Louisiana Association of Clerks of Court Risk Management Agency (LACCRMA) was formed.

1995 – Once again seeing a need for a special program, Hunt assisted the Florida Sheriffs with inmate medical coverage.  Hunt Insurance Group developed Catastrophic Inmate                       Medical Insurance (CIMI) and became the MGA for it across the country.

1998 – Hunt Insurance Group, Inc. was acquired by Hilb Rogal & Hobbs (HRH), then the tenth largest insurance and risk management broker in the U.S.

2006 – Hunt Insurance Group, Inc. re-filed under the name of Hunt Insurance Group, LLC.

2007 – Hunt Insurance Group contracted as administrators for the Louisiana Clerks of Court Insurance Trust (LCCIT) to provide self-funded medical and other employee benefits for all

            Clerks’ employees.


2008 – Hilb Rogal & Hobbs (HRH) merged with the international firm Willis Group Holdings. Hunt joined the Willis Pooling Practice and continued to serve clients as Hunt Insurance                   Group, LLC.

2009 – Hunt Insurance Group assisted many Florida Housing Authorities in developing the Florida Public Housing Authority Self-Insurance Fund for property, liability, and auto                           coverages.

2013 – After consolidating all property/casualty Funds into the Florida Sheriffs Risk Management Fund, the Sheriff’s Fund Directors moved administration in-house, purchasing the                     business from Hunt Insurance Group.  Hunt and FSRMF continue to work closely together to serve the Florida Sheriffs.  

2015 – The Hunts acquired full control of Hunt Insurance Group, LLC once more from Willis in order to continue serving clients in its specialty niche of consulting and administration to

            associations.
